Milled right in house, Kernza® flour is perfect for breads and baked goods. Unsifted.
Kernza® is the first perennial grain on the market, and we’re excited to distribute it! In the face of topsoil erosion, nutrient run-off, and climate change, Kernza provides ecosystem services that mitigate the damages caused by conventional agriculture. Kernza’s hearty root system prevents erosion and its roots dramatically reduce groundwater pollution. Most notably, Kernza sequesters carbon in the soil, making it a promising climate solution.
What’s more, Kernza is delicious!
While intermediate wheatgrass was consumed in ancient times, researchers at The Land Institute and the University of Minnesota’s Forever Green Initiative have produced a commercially viable strain. Kernza’s long root system extends over ten feet beneath the soil surface, and is more dense than the annual wheat root, too. In good conditions, the long, slender seed heads can contain more seeds than an annual wheat head, but Kernza seeds are currently about one fifth the size of most conventional wheat seeds.
The supply chain is young, and best processing and growing practices are very much works in progress, so thanks for your patience as we work to stock this exciting new product.
Only available in the US.
